This meetup is a perk for our Sacred Space Astronomy subscribers: on Saturday September 10th, we’ll be holding our regularly scheduled on-line meetup where you get to chat with each other, and astronomers and scientists from the Vatican Observatory!

According to a recent survey, only 14% of the civil engineering workforce is composed of women. And how many of them are religious sisters? Our guest this week is one of them!
“Creation is my greatest passion,” she told Aquinas Magazine upon her appointment as Dean of Science and Sustainability. “Ever since I was a child I loved nature and the outdoors. That passion opened up in me the desire to protect the beauty and diversity of the natural world. It also led me to questions about who is the author of this beautiful nature, which ultimately led me to my vocation as a Franciscan Sister of the Eucharist.”

Sister Damien Marie is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist, and has the following degrees:
- Ph.D., Civil (Environmental) Engineering from the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.
- M.A. Theology from from the Catholic University of America
- M.S. Soil Science from the University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT
- B.S. Biogeography (High Honors) from McGill University, Montreal, Canada
From August 2013 – May 2016, she was Associate Professor and Chair, Environmental Science and Studies Department; and Joint Appointment in Environmental Science and Theology/Catholic Studies, University of St. Thomas, Houston.
From August 2008 – July 2013, she was Assistant Professor and Chair, Environmental Science and Studies Department; and Joint Appointment in Environmental Science and Theology/Catholic Studies, University of St. Thomas, Houston.
