April is Citizen Science Month, and Zooniverse invites people around the world to take part in something special: 2.50 Million Acts of Science in celebration of America’s 250th birthday.
In addition to hundreds of projects and events scheduled throughout the month, SciStarter is organizing weekly, online events where volunteers like you will work on the same project at the same time, guided by the scientists leading the research. This is a great opportunity for students! (I wish something like this had existed when I was in school.)
These events are part of Do NASA Science LIVE! and the Acts of Science: Connected series; all participation during these events counts toward 2.50 Million Acts of Science – so get started!
Three of the weekly events feature Zooniverse projects:
April 2 | What’s the Weather Like on Mars?
Register on Zoom
Help analyze cloud images from Mars through the Zooniverse Cloudspotting on Mars project and support scientists studying the Martian atmosphere.
April 22 | Earth Day Animal Spot-A-Thon
Register on Zoom
Celebrate Earth Day by identifying wildlife in trail camera images through the Zooniverse Snapshot Wisconsin project and help researchers monitor animal populations.
April 29 | Comets, Clues, and Our Cosmic Story
Register on Zoom
Explore astronomical data and help scientists investigate comets and our solar system through the Zooniverse Rubin Comet Catchers project. (I’m particularly interested in this one!)
During each event, you’ll:
- Contribute to real scientific research
- Work alongside volunteers across the globe
- Hear directly from project scientists
- Ask questions and learn how your efforts support discovery
Whether you join an event or participate in Citizen Science Month, be sure to join our SciStarter & Do NASA Science LIVE! Group on Zooniverse so all your classifications count toward 2.50 Million Acts of Science in April! Click here to join to contribute your classification stats. (Note: you can be a member of multiple groups, the membership doesn’t impact your personal stats, and you can leave the group at any time.
