About the Dr. Barry Rankin Sundays at CTU Lecture Series on God’s Creation
In 2019, the Dr. Barry Rankin Sundays at CTU Lecture Series on God’s Creation was established to explore themes of eco-theology, celebrating a “cosmos saturated with divinity.” The series memorializes the scholarship and contributions of the late Dr. Barry Rankin, a key organizer of Catholic Theological Union.
Br. Guy Consolmagno was the guest lecturer on Sunday March 12, 2023.
Humanity’s robots have visited every planet in the solar system; humans have even walked on the Moon. And so far we have discovered thousands of planets around other stars. All those other planets, and all the stars they orbit, are part of the same universe created by God. They present a glorious opportunity for us to come to grips with what it means to be a creature… and to appreciate the words of the Psalmist: When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established; what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor.
