The Nuremberg trial of 24 major war criminals before the International Military Tribunal (IMT) started on November 20, 1945. Its legitimacy was based on the concept of natural law which has a long history, with the main references being Plato, Aristotle, Cicero, St Paul, St Augustine, St Albert the Great, St Thomas Aquinas and the Jesuit School of Salamanca. It has become a key precedent for the application of this legal concept in jurisprudence.
