At the 2022 Society of Catholic Scientists (SCS) conference, Marie I. George gave this talk, which was published on the SCS web page. She notes historian Lynn White’s influential 1967 essay “The Historical Roots of Our Ecological Crisis”, published in the journal Science, where White blamed Christianity for the ecological crisis, insisting that Christianity, in contrast to paganism, said that it is God’s will that man exploit nature. George notes that “tellingly, White does not quote a single Christian author supporting these views.” She then proceeds to highlight the views of saints and popes on the environment.
