In 1964 Fr. Georges Lemaître gave an interview on the subject of his theory regarding the origin of the universe with journalist Jerome Verhaeghe. The theory had been called a “Big Bang Theory” by the astronomer Fred Hoyle. This interview had been presumed lost but was rediscovered in December 2022. Frs. Jean-Baptiste Kikwaya Eluo, S.J. and Paul Gabor, S.J. of the Vatican Observatory teamed up with Satya Gontcho A Gontcho, a scientist at the Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, to produce a full transcript of the interview and an English translation of the interview. Berkeley lab produced this article about the interview in January 2023.
