Join us October 28th for our next Full Moon-th Meetup where we’ll chat with Robert J. Nemiroff, Astrophysicist and Professor of Physics at Michigan Technological University. He is also the co-creator of the very popular Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) website.

Our tradition of hosting online meetups with our Sacred Space Astronomy members and the Vatican Observatory staff, scholars and friends during the Full Moon in Tucson (or thereabout) continues on Saturday October 28th at 12:00 Noon ET (9:00 AM Tucson time). This meetup is a perk for our Sacred Space Astronomy subscribers- you get to chat with each other, and astronomers and scientists from the Vatican Observatory!

We’ll also have the latest astronomy news and an update about the Vatican Advanced Technology Telescope*.

Bob Nemiroff

Robert J. Nemiroff worked at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland, USA before coming to Michigan Tech. He is actively researching gamma-ray bursts and gravitational lensing phenomena. He has published as first author and refereed for every major journal in astronomy and astrophysics.

He along with Jerry Bonnell, created of the very popular Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) website in 1995 – one of the oldest astronomy sites on the internet.

“He was named a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 2022 ‘for exceptional daily astronomy outreach for over 25 years, primarily through the Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) website, which has served billions of space-related images with explanations translated daily into over 20 languages’. In 2023, an asteroid formerly known as 2002 GB185 was named “(270558) Nemiroff” in recognition of his role in APOD.

Nemiroff and Bonnell were awarded the inaugural International Astronomical Union (IAU) Astronomy Outreach Prize in 2022.” – Wikipedia

He has a new book: “Faster than Light” – he talked about several concepts in his book when he spoke to Michigan’s Warren Astronomical Society in July. It was a lot of fun, and there was quite a bit of audience interaction. I think you’ll be in for a treat! – Bob Trembley

When? Saturday, October 28th: Rain or shine

What time? These meetups will happen around lunch time in North America: in particular, 12:00 PM Eastern Standard Time, which is 9:00 AM Tucson time.
