Find a Galaxy – for SCIENCE!

Galaxy Zoo, a project of Zooniverse, has new images of galaxies from ESA’s Euclid mission, and they urgently need your eyeballs to help to classify them. They only have until the end of August to get enough classifications to train their Zoobot AI to do the best it can with the rest.

If you have just a few minutes, you might see images of galaxies no one has seen before, and you’ll be helping a notable study of galaxies get started!

Click here to sign up for Galaxy Zoo and do some citizen science!

A galaxy from the new Euclid Galaxy Zoo project. It is a mess of white and blue blobbiness on a black background, not a traditional galaxy shape. It has some bright clumps, which the team is looking for especially. However, the most interesting feature is that there is a bright, straight line from the bottom left hand corner of the image to the centre of the galaxy. The line is obviously much longer than the galaxy is wide. I wonder if it is a jet or a background galaxy. (Hopefully not something boring like a diffraction spike.)

Zooniverse is the world’s largest and most popular platform for people-powered research. You don’t need any specialized background, training, or expertise to participate in the multitude of different Zooniverse projects.
