Bring Radio Astronomy to your students with the the Goldstone Apple Valley Radio Telescope Summer Institute for teachers.

K-12 teachers, administrators, individuals and venues involved with STEM programming are invited participate in this program at the Lewis Center for Educational Research in Apple Valley, and the Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex from June 23-25, 2015.

Goldstone Apple Valley Radio TelescopeSummer Insitute 2015 flier

“Through GAVRT, students operate a 34-meter radio telescope remotely, collecting data on radio sources including planets, such as Jupiter and Uranus, distant astronomical objects, such as Quasars and pulsars, and the sun. Additional opportunities include partnerships with NASA flight missions and work on GAVRT’s SETI Campaign. Students have the opportunity to work with NASA radio astronomy research professionals in planning scientific experiments, conducting observations, and analyzing data.

This exciting institute will train participants in all aspects of the GAVRT Program, including radio astronomy, support curriculum, and antenna operations. The 3-day event will take place June 23-25 at the Lewis Center for Educational Research in Apple Valley, California with a full day excursion to visit the antennas of the Deep Space Network at the Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex.”

Continuing Education Credits (2) will be available through Cal State San Bernardino for your attendance at the Summer Institute. Paperwork will be distributed during the training. Cal State San Bernardino charges $120 for the credits.

The program is accepting sign-ups now! The deadline for sign-ups is May 29, 2015.

How completely cool is this? I mean seriously… I would have loved an opportunity like this when I was a student. With my wife teaching a 7-8th grade Astronomy class next year, I think she needs to go to this… I think I need to go with her!

Please share this opportunity with any interested educators.
