Two magnificent lunar eclipses in one year. What a blessing! Unlike the one in May where, for our location in Tucson, AZ, the moon rose already in partial eclipse, this one started very near zenith. This gave me a chance to try out my new Orion 500mm f/5.6 Maksutov-Cassegrain camera lens on my old Cannon Rebel DSLR. For those not familiar with such jargon just think ‘old camera on a new fancy lens.’ The weather, which had been scattered clouds at the beginning of the night, cleared off by eclipse time and we had beautiful skies with temperatures in the 50-60F range from then on and followed the eclipse until shortly after the total portion ended.
