A discussion of Jesuits and the Coriolis Effect, by Christopher Graney of the Vatican Observatory, at the Jesuit University of Guadalajara in 2023. The Coriolis Effect is caused by the rotation of the Earth, and is important in the formation of hurricanes. Jesuit astronomers in the 17th century were the first to envision the Effect, and Jesuit astronomers investigated the effect in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Graney’s discussion is in English; introductory remarks are in Spanish and English.
