Secchi, Angelo (1818-1878)

Fr. Angelo Secchi of the Society of Jesus conducted pioneering research into the nature of stars. His work in astronomy laid the foundations for the modern Vatican Observatory. The Sun-Earth Connection Coronal and Heliospheric Investigation (SECCHI) package on NASA’s STEREO solar mission is named for him.
